First of all a game uses either turn-based or real-time gameplay, with either a focus on strategy (often more based on resources, types of units etc.) or on tactics (positioning, and focus on combat). We can divide strategy gaming into a four sub-genres, and often there’s some overlap between them. There is an inherent strategic element built into the game this way already because everyone gains mana at the same rate so you have to decide between saving up for expensive units or throwing out several cheaper units. Each unit has a different mana cost and each player slowly regenerates mana over time. I have the opportunity to select from a variety of different troops on my left hand that are displayed via a sleek card deck-like interface.
